It’s funny what magazines you end up perusing at the gym. You know how it goes: you forgot your paperback and you just have to look at something to break up the boredom of 30 minutes on the stairmaster.

Well, I recently found myself picking up a copy of Thoroughbred & Classis Cars. (Needless to say, with a title like that, it’s a British publication.) This particular issue dealt with the purchase of classic cars as alternative investments. Fantasy, perhaps, but it had me looking at the gorgeous pictures of the coupes and racers of yesteryear.

I was very surprised to see a 1967 Rolls Royce coupe (sorry, I forget the exact model but I do recall it had only 32,000 miles) profiled with an estimated price of £20,000 (or about $32,000 for us here in the states). This was much less than I thought it would be, which made me think that rental fees for similar cars probably were more economical than I thought. That got me thinking: what a great way to get grooms involved with a wedding.

Let’s face it: many men (and, yes, a good deal of women) have at least a passing fancy with fancy cars. So, if your groom-to-be is showing less than blazing interest in the wedding planning process, show him a picture of, oh, say a 1968 Rolls Royce Phantom V:

Thats whats you call arriving at the ceremony in style.

That's what's you call arriving at the ceremony in style.

I mean, c’mon, only 516 of those were made. How cool is that? My point is: get the guy thinking about what kind of car best symbolizes you and your event. It could be anything, from Detroit muscle to Tokyo tech. And, it’s just possible that when he starts thinking about the car, he’ll start thinking about how it fits into the larger affair. Maybe, for some reason, he’s a fan of Studebakers and opts for a 1953 Commander:

Classic lines, classic style.

Classic lines, classic style. And black for a formal occasion.

Well, then, maybe he’s game for going with a ’50s theme with a classic Hollywood twist. The possibilities are limitless. But first, just start talking cars and see what happens…
